Cristiano Ronaldo has introduced his newborn daughter to the world following the death of her twin baby brother.
The football icon and his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez announced the arrival of their daughter early last week, as well as the sad death of her sibling.
The Manchester United star announced in October that he and his partner were expecting twins together, while last Monday their joint statement described their loss as ‘the greatest pain that any parent can feel.’
Upon their return home on Thursday, the sportsman thanked his 436million followers for their ‘kind words and gestures.’
Now, the Portuguese player has posed a heartwarming snap with his baby girl – whose name has not been announced publicly – showing her curled up asleep in his arms.
He shared the black and white post on both Twitter and Instagram, with Ronaldo shirtless while his newborn is wrapped in a blanket and wears a tiny knitted hat.
His fans and celebrity pals were quick to offer their warm wishes, with the likes of Marcus Rashford commenting a heart, while Pelé wrote: ‘Que Deus abençoe!’ which translates to, ‘May God bless you.’
Ronaldo and Rodriguez also shared daughter Alana, three, while the Manchester United star also has son Cristiano Jr., 11, and twins Eva and Mateo, via unknown surrogates in the United States.
Rodriguez mostly kept her recent pregnancy under wraps, but did announce the sex of their babies back in December.
Revealing that they were expecting both a boy and a girl, the couple posted a joyful video of their kids popping balloons, with pink and blue confetti bursting out.’
‘Where life begins and love never ends ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ #blessed,’ the pair captioned their Instagram posts.
When announcing the death of their twin boy on April 18, their statement read: ‘It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away.
‘It is the greatest pain that any parent can feel.’
They continued: ‘Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.
‘We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support. We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time.’
‘Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you,’ they signed off
