Kidnappers whisked Delta ex-lawmaker away in speed boat after setting vehicle ablaze

Gunmen kidnapped Joan Mrakpor, a former member of the House of Representatives from Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency in Delta State, and transported her on a speedboat on the River Niger to an unknown destination. It was learnt that the gunmen who drove her to the bank of the River Niger on Asaba's Otu-Ogwu road set fire to the car before boarding the speed boat.

Mrakpor, the State's immediate past Commissioner for Technical Education, was taken at around 5 p.m. on Tuesday in a church off Delta Broadcasting Service, DBS Asaba, where she worships. The brutal operation claimed the lives of two people, including her police orderly. When contacted, Mr. Bright Edafe, the State Command's Police Public Relations Officer, stated that "we are still on the road of the kidnappers".
