David Adeleke, often known as Davido, discusses his intense interest in the Edo State governorship election.

This follows reports of a high voter turnout in Edo State on Saturday, September 21st, during the off-cycle gubernatorial election.

Davido has been openly criticising the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on X, blaming the organisation of election malpractices. Many people questioned his role in the Edo State election, citing the fact that he is not the state's governor. In answer to enquiries via his X Twitter, Davido stated that his late mother, Imade Veronica Adeleke, was from Edo State. He went on to say that, aside from his personal connection with his mother, he feels bound to be concerned as a Nigerian citizen. Davido further stated that he had similarly criticised INEC during the Osun State gubernatorial election, in which his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke was a candidate. "My mother is from Edo, which justifies my interest in the election... But we as Nigerians should be concerned, sha. @inecnigeria, shame on you! I remember how many times I had to come in here and shout until they got it right in Osun! It's very awful. "God help us," he said
